Soundscapes This September

So here we are yet again with four gigs that we have handpicked for you this September. These are listed in no particular order other than chronology. Pick the one closest to home and make it your own. And when you do, don’t forget to let us know how it went.

Wednesday, September 17 - Man Slaughter Fest 2014

Matchbox, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi

If you are a fan of heavy metal, and if you live in or around New Delhi, you shouldn’t miss this gig. The line up includes High Frequency, The Cosmic Truth, 13 God's Bench, and Trigger. All of the aforementioned adrenaline-triggering bands for just Rs. 200 at the gate. Quite a steal if you ask us. So get your chains, bandanas, tattered jeans, and black metal tees out. The gig is just around the corner.

Saturday, September 20 - Whirling Kalapas

Westin Hotel, Pune

Whirling Kalapas — comprising Uday Benegal, Sankarshan “Shanks” Kini and Ashwin Andrew — has been garnering praise from audiences across the country. They are a rich addition to the current indie music scene, particularly for audiences looking beyond the volume-driven sounds of metal and EDM. If you go to the Westin, Pune this Saturday, you can experience the band’s vocally rich and instrumentally diverse sound firsthand. But don’t you forget that we told you so.

Saturday, September 20 - Moshpit 2014

YMCA, Ahmedabad

Heavy metal fans in and around Ahmedabad, rejoice. The biggest metal gig in all of Gujarat is back, and this time with a jaw-dropping line up. The bands that have been confirmed to play include Gutslit, Zero Gravity, Trinergic, SystemHouse 33, Contravene, Slaughter Cage, Denied Prophecies, Screams of Insanity, The Lotus Eaters, Pessimistic Graves, and Clandestine. Truth be told, some of the aforementioned names made our hair stand on end just while typing them out. We could go on and on but let it suffice to say that your return on investment is guaranteed if you are starved for heavy/death/thrash metal.

Wednesday, September 25 - Zedde

Hard Rock Cafe, Andheri

And like they say, save the best for the last [2Blue winks]. Zedde is a multi-award winning hard rock band that enjoys playing original music. But the band does slip in a bit of Guns N’ Roses here and Aerosmith there just to give their audience a sense of their gratitude for all the loyalty and support. It’s free entry before 8 pm and Rs. 250 per head thereafter. Just so you know, Zedde is the author’s favorite. Why, you ask? Because he sings in it  [2Blue winks again].

2Blue (a.k.a Tirthankar Poddar) forayed into the Mumbai rock circuit in 2000. Having gained notoriety for his powerful high-pitched singing and on-stage charisma, he was soon invited to sing for Vayu. After 5 years in Vayu and countless monumental shows, 2Blue formed the hard rock band Zedde (pronounced z?d). Always a man for his heroes, the self-taught singer attributes his vocal prowess to his childhood heroes: David Coverdale, Joe Lynn Turner, Ian Gillan, Ronnie James Dio, and Bruce Dickinson. For him, if a thing was good once, it always is.
