Hard Kaur is More of a Foodie Than a Party Animal

Be it ‘Ek Glassy, Do Glassy’ , ‘Chaar Baj Gaye Hai Lekin Party Abhi Baaki Hai,  to her recent groovy number with Jazzy B – ‘Zallim Dilli’ – India’s first female hip-hop sensation Hard Kaur definitely knows how to bring life to a party with her peppy numbers. Since 2007, Hard Kaur aka Taran Kaur Dhillon has never dissapointed us.

However, if you quiz the sassy girl about her partying routine she quips, “I’ve got fed up with it over the years. I do not go to clubs anymore with a specific agenda that I want to party, for the simple reason that an artist’s life is in clubs. Our performances are in clubs and there are people always partying around me and on my songs. It feels very good, but otherwise I do not like partying here anymore, especially not in Mumbai. Of course, when I have work, I do go visit popular nightclubs, but otherwise no partying here.”

Hard Kaur, who has cut an album called – ‘Party Loud All Year: P. L. A. Y’, was once a regular at places like Hard Rock Café, Lagerbay and other popular joints in Mumbai, but now the lady prefers house parties over any grand affairs. “I don’t feel like going out anymore in India.  I would rather sit at home and chill, or have a house party. House parties are always better. I love having my friends over, play cards and play some good music,” says Hard Kaur.

However, that does not mean the feisty rapper has given up on having fun entirely.  When Hard Kaur is abroad, no one can stop her from letting her hair down, grab a glass of her favorite cosmopolitan and have some good time. “Abroad, I like it, because of the many options you have. I will have an option of a hip-hop club, I will have an option to go to a techno club, electro dance club… there are varied options out there if you are in a mood to party,” says the popular rapper.

While partying abroad is one thing, the lure of good food is another that takes this rapper-turned-music director across the globe. Talking about her food fetish, Hard Kaur says, “I love travelling and whenever I am travelling, I am always on the lookout for good food. England is my favorite place to visit because not only did I grow up there, but I also love the food in England. You have so much variety of food over there and the West Indian delicacy is my favorite. I love the Jamaican food there too. And I think London has the best KFC in the world.”

The food traveler that she is, Hard Kaur also loves Australia, Ireland and Chicago as she says, “Australia is one place I love to go, everything over there is so fresh. The country also offers varied cuisines. I have a thing for pizza pies that are served in restaurants in Chicago. It is a pie that has mouth watering toppings. I also love Ireland, not only is it a beautiful country but also the food there is delicious and accompanying your food is, of course, the famous Guinness. “

Closer home, you will find Hard Kaur often at Pali Village café, Bandra. “I love to eat at Pali Village Café because it is the only place where I can go when I am craving for those top flavors of England in India. Also I love raw tuna and if I am dying for tuna sashimi, I go all the way to Kalina, Santacruz at Grand Hyatt and have the buffet there just so that I can have the tuna sashimi. They serve it the best, it is so fresh and flown in from god knows where, maybe Japan or Australia – but it is so fresh. Tuna has to be fresh like just out of the sea and somehow Grand Hyatt manages that,” reveals Hard Kaur.
