Kalki Koechlin is not your stereotypical heroine, but is definitely a treat to watch on-screen. Not one to prescribe to any norms, she has made her own choices and in a short span of time has made a mark for herself in the industry with her uninhibited performances in movies like Dev D, Shaitan, The Girl In Yellow Boots, Shanghai, and the internationally acclaimed – Margarita With A Straw.
“I've just been lucky. I'm glad that I got the opportunity to work on such amazing projects. I'm someone who is open to any kind of work as long as it's creatively nurturing me,” says Kalki with her characteristic exuberance, which not only reflects in her work but also in her life. A life, which is full of passion and many adventures.
Kalki is a self-confessed adventure junkie, who loves to explore nature. She says, “I'm quite an adventurous person. Recently, I started learning surfing in my hometown - Pondicherry. There is a surf center at this place called Bodi beach, so I started surfing there. I also enjoy skiing and scuba diving. I like being amidst nature. I love to go trekking, and one place I frequent for this purpose, is Kashmir. I've also trekked at places like Nilgiris, Mudumalai Sanctuary and Manali. I'm still to visit the Northeast. Adventure sports are a complete stress buster for me.”
The gutsy actor, who has also done out-and-out commercial films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, adds, “ I love going somewhere where there is no phone network. That way I can stay away from Twitter, Instagram, E-mails, etc. Otherwise, the phone is buzzing constantly with emails, messages, notifications - fuelling stress.”
A free spirit, this actor of French descent loves travelling and exploring new places. And, just like her career, while traveling too, Kalki likes to take the road less travelled - “When I’m abroad I usually take a cycle and explore the place on my own. I like to travel to quaint and interesting places where I've never been before. Right now on my wish list is exploring the Inca civilization in Peru. Anogher place I want to explore is Japan.”
Quiz this adventure freak about clubbing and having a good time with friends and she laughs, “I think, I have become too old for parties. I have replaced parties with green tea.” She adds, “But once in a while I do attend a party. I love dancing, I'm not a great dancer but I love going crazy. I love weddings and love going to a friend’s wedding and dancing there.”
However partying in Mumbai is a strict no-no. “I think it is very hard for me to party in Mumbai, because you get so conscious. People are constantly taking selfies with you, so you have to be very guarded. I'm always conscious about the fact that maybe I should not have too many tequilas and dance because people might just record my dancing. You can’t be carefree and just have fun here,” reveals Kalki. Instead, she prefers a nice evening out with friends at some of her favourite places like Bar Stock Exchange and Blue Frog.
