Looking forward to the Saturday’s Vladivar Mixology Masterclass at Fava, Bangalore?
What can participants expect at the Vladivar Mixology Masterclass?
I want to concentrate on demystifying cocktails... While partying at home people consume alcohol in straight form, whether it’s spirits, beer or wine. But cocktails give you more variation! A lot of a people assume that only Bartenders can mix cocktails... That only people professionally trained to do it, can do it right! But that’s not true and this calls for the need to demystify cocktails... To make a great cocktail all you need is imagination and some liquor!
Why are cocktails more famous than spirits, beers and wines?
Cocktail gives you options! If you don’t like pungent and strong alcohol but still have a bottle of spirit you are not sure how to drink it! You could drink it with soda and ice but many don’t really like it. But a splash of orange juice, cranberry juice or apple juice could do a little bit of trick and fine tune the flavors (like seasoning the food) change the taste! It gives you a completely different experience!
Are cocktails an attempt to mask the taste of the liquor?
In this part of the world, we tag alcohol based on gender but in alcohol there is nothing like a man’s drink or a girl’s drink! The drink depends on people’s preference. It’s all about what you enjoy as a person. I am a Whisky person.
What is your most favorite drink?
My favorite is Manhattan! It’s a Whisky cocktail served on the rocks!
Any interesting cocktail moments to share?
Lot of interesting moments and it’s hard to quote anything in particular! The experience is entertaining and it’s quite interesting to be behind the bar and serve people! Knowing a drink, ordering and mixing the drink say a lot about the person. How a person orders, the script he uses, says a lot about him! What he is mixing the drink with... This gives you great idea as who the person is going to be like! On the whole, there is much to learn about ordering as much is there to learn about mixing!!!
Anything more on Vladivar Mixology Masterclass?
The participants would learn not just about mixing but also ordering cocktails. It’s a social skill that needs to be cultivated!
What difference do you see between yourself and consumers when it comes to cocktails?
Difference between me and consumer would be the experience! It differs from person to person... Being from the beverage industry I don’t abuse it. I like to enjoy my drink based on the taste and texture.
