Sunburn Goa - To Do List

Hundreds and thousands of you have already earmarked for Sunburn in Goa this year and are prepping to be there in less than a week. All your friends and you are figuring out road-trip logistics, flight tickets or stay options as you read this. Well, getting ready to attend a music festival is not so easy as it is to groove and head spin while your favourite DJ tears the stage apart. It’s not just about getting to the venue to tick mark from your DJ bucket list. However, it’s also about remaining true to yourself and not losing your voice amidst the crowd. In short this Sunburn remember to unfake it.

Dress like you own it: Let’s face it, music festivals have become top contenders, only next to fashion weeks to showcase your fashion and trend knowledge.  If you are a guy, cargo shorts and sneakers don’t make the cut and let’s not even start with the list of don’ts, for you girls.  You must be well dressed at all times and that is a must. When we say dress well, we don’t mean douse yourself in ensembles that are trend centric, just because it is the cool thing to do. Be true to yourself. If you don’t already have a signature personal style, spend some time to understand your body type and take into consideration your personality to create looks that are truly original. But remember to carry hats, sunglasses and a whole bunch scarves with everything else and unfake fashion.

Know your DJs: You won’t be able to cover every DJ in Sunburn, don’t even try. Instead of hopping from one stage to another dazed and confused, know your DJs. The organizers give you ample information about all the performing artists. Research and read up on them. If you don’t already know the artists, listen to their compilations from before and make a handy list of all those you want to listen to, against the time, the day and venue of their performance. Don’t get swayed by popular opinion or just because you are supposed to listen to a particular artist. Try to prioritise based on your interest. But most importantly don’t be that gang of people, who aimlessly run from stage to stage while pushing and nudging other people on their way. Try and reach at least 10 mins before the show begins to reserve a good spot and unfake your love for music.

Take care of yourself: Music festivals are all about experiencing the music with your favourite drinks. At Sunburn this year, make a pact to ensure you will drink, but in a responsible manner. Sure, you don’t have to worry about driving home, but remember not to overdo it. Getting intoxicated in a moderate way is the best way to enjoy music. You need to be in your senses to groove to the music. Waking up on the beach the following day with no recollection of the day before only to realise you’ve lost your phone and hotel keys is definitely not the way you want to start your next day. You don’t have to be out of your mind quiet literally, remember we vowed to unfake.

Pack these essentials: Packing for music festivals goes beyond just clothes. It is the smaller things that come in handy while you are playing the field. Pack sunscreen and loads of wet wipes. It’s hot and humid in Goa remember? Next on your list should be a pair of sturdy boots. Music festivals and boots are meant to hang out together. Sprint through the day in your majestic festive boots. A medium size carry all is a must have while going to a music festival. This not only adds to your style but ensures all your valuables are safe and sound. Lastly, remember to carry a light carpet, spread it out on the floor and lay low with your gang and a metal water bottle to refill water and stay hydrated through the day.

Make Friends:  Music festivals are fun, hordes of people throng from across the country. Don’t be a sour puss and make sure to make a lot of new friends. Be the social butterfly. The more people you know in a music festival the more fun it is. Talk to your neighbours, the guy playing the guitar in a corner by himself, the group of friends just as big as yours, the guy lining up next to you at the bar or the girl dancing by herself. Soak in the festive atmosphere, drink, dress up, dance, head stand, flirt, get tanned and have a blast at Sunburn in Goa this season while staying true to yourself. Remember at all times to unfake it.
