“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.” These words by Washington Irving become more stimulating every second Sunday of May, a day dedicated to the most angelic person in the world, who enabled us to see the light of this world.
Le Meridien, Delhi took the beautiful occasion of Mother's day to pay tribute to moms through a special event which included a cooking competition, an instant portrait sketching, a music performance and last but not the least, a buffet lunch at one of their finest restaurants - The One.
As soon as you set foot into The One, you will be captivated by the flamboyant ambiance. You can either choose to sit near the glass walls, which would let you enjoy the natural light and adore the beauty of nature outside or you can have a seat in the corners, which are embellished with soothing lights.
The Mother’s Day buffet was divided into three parts: continental, Indian and delectable dessert. They also had a separate ice-cream corner and live kitchen for serving pasta, etc.
Though this buffet lunch happens everyday at The One, the presence of gleeful families celebrating this special occasion made the entire atmosphere euphoric.
The food was an exhibition of culinary art, from presentation to taste, leaving us spellbound. The continental food was very light, less oily and perfect for people watching their weight. Starters included paneer, sundried polenta with ratatouille, ham, corn etc. I could here one of the mums saying, “The Dum pukt gohst biriyani is surely one of the best in Delhi!”
You could see mums sipping on Smirnoff cosmopolitans like as they smiled from ear to ear. Live music performance by two young performers with amazing voices made the buffet even more delightful.
The dessert corner of the buffet could undoubtedly impress anyone. It needed not only skill but also immense patience to make a disposition of that level. The mini pastries melted in our mouth. Chefs' experiments with mango, in the form of Mango pudding and Mango phirni left me flabbergasted. So did the Brioche nut pudding and Anaras halwa.
Then came the fun-filled cooking competition where the participants were asked to cook pasta of their choice within a stipulated time of 15 minutes. Participants volunteered from amongst the guests. No words can describe the vivacity of the participants, who surely got a buzz out of this fun competition. A skilled artist was present there as well, to draw portraits of enthusiasts.
All these fun events added to the exultation and gave an exemplary chance to gratify mothers. Le Meridien deserves special credit for coming up with this phenomenal idea so you could give back a little of the love your mother has been showering on you from the moment you were born.
