Burgers & Cocktails at Big Nasty

Are you through with eating the usual lot of burgers at McDonalds and KFC? Most of you would answer a 'BIG YES' to this question. As a result, I could barely contain my excitement when I visited Big Nasty. Big Nasty, boasting of an extensive food-and-beverage menu, has surely caught the attention of many young and middle-aged Mumbaikars alike. Situated off the Carter road, this place has a dim-lit entrance that gives you a feeling of entering a cosy establishment. Big nasty is a small café, but as the manager says, it is ?Literally home to locals around.? It is situated in the same building as that of Shatranj Napoli, the multi-cuisine restaurant. The location is quite favourable, in the same line of other notable restaurants such as Olives, Out of the Blue, and the recently launched WTF. There is funky graffiti adorning the walls, leading all the way to the bar, which lends this place a vibrant and youthful vibe?a big thumbs up to the owner Kishore DF for the impressive decor.

Music

I visited the cafe on a Saturday night, and was quite surprised to hear the DJ play country music; most were not even popular hits. The space, albeit small, includes a dance floor as well. During the weekdays, the music played is mostly soft rock, much to the taste of most people looking for a quiet outing. However, during the weekend, this place turns quite raucous.

Food

The Big Nasty has a very vast menu of food offerings. An extra point for that, as most establishments these days barely include anything in the main-course section. Burgers dominated the menu, and were highly recommended by the chef. The chef personally visited my table to present his recommendation 'The Chilli Basil Fish Burger', which was in their signature ?nasty? style (you can opt for a regular or a nasty-style preparation). The nasty style was priced at Rs.420, and was sufficient for two. The burger bun was enormous, and the Pattie included yummy chunks of fish. It has no less than 18 variants in Burgers, with wholesome juicy and moist fillings. They are definitely messy, but who is complaining? The burgers are served with a generous amount of chips and sauces. Along with our ?naaaasty? burger, we ordered for a 'Non Veg Platter'. It comprised of roast beef chilli, chicken nuggets, hot wings, fish and chips, and prawns. The fish and chips and hot wings were noteworthy. It was priced at Rs. 700, but the portions were not up to the price. [caption id="attachment_1661" align="aligncenter" width="517"]Big Nasty Image 5 Delicious burgers and cocktails at Big Nasty

Bar

The bar at Big Nasty had a characteristic warm and homely appeal. I stood by the bar through most of the night enjoying the music. I ordered for 'Kalimaxto' that night. A little worried about what I would be presented with, I was offered a delightful mix of Four Seasons red wine and coke. Although it strikes as a dreadful combination, it was surprisingly quite innovative and had a hint of Sangria flavour. The taste of the Four Seasons red wine gave a nice sweet-sour taste to the Kalimaxto. The bar menu also had other variants such as nasty four or six shots in a row and nasty LIT bowls. All the cocktails were priced in Rs. 350-450 range, which seemed quite decent. They have most imported beers stacked in their bar, served chilled, and Hoegarden on tap. The bar did not have too many cocktail variants; however, on my request, he prepared a whisky-based cocktail. A combination of McDowell?s, dash of coke, plenty of ice, and lime juice was shaken up well to prepare this splendid concoction. The presence of McDowell?s was perfect to end my night-out with my buddies at this establishment! All in all, the place was well priced, had an innovative food menu, included delightful cocktails, and played great music. It is a different experience from other establishments that turn into nightclubs with the rising decibel levels; in addition, you would have a great time without really burning a hole in your pocket.   Oh, and did I mention they are the same guys behind the WTF! fame? WHERE? The Big Nasty!, 2nd floor, Shatranj Napoli Building, next to Olive Bar and Kitchen, Union Park, Khar (W);  Call them on 9821524563 for reservations. HOW MUCH? Rs. 1,200 for two without alcohol; Rs 2,500 with alcohol WHEN? 12.30 pm to 1.30 am WHAT?S HOT? The pricing, Nasty Burgers, and the food menu on the whole WHAT?S NOT? The music and lack of variety in cocktails CUISINE: Kinda American Style SHOULD YOU GO THERE? Yes, if you love burgers!   RATING: Ambience ? 3.5, Cuisine ? 4.5
