The hottest winter party destinations

There’s something about the end of the year that screams ‘party!’. Here’s where every winter break is guaranteed to be a blast.

Dubai: With all the shopping, dining and entertainment that Dubai has to offer it’s an all-year destination. But come winter and it gets even better. For one thing, temperatures are pleasant and you can enjoy the outdoors a lot more, whether Champagne on the beach or desert safari. The nightlife fairly crackles, too.

NYC: There’s never a dearth of great parties in New York. With the city cloaked in snow, the party vibe just gets hotter. Winter sees the pulsating city show off a different side. The East Village is a rocking party zone and as winter wears on there are festivals in China Town and beer weeks to keep spirits high.

Berlin: Sure, there are few things to beat a beer in Berlin on a sunny day. But the German city in winter is beautiful as well. Hit the pubs and the fantastic clubs. And for some traditional festivities, there’s always a Christmas Market to go to.

Goa: It’s where the party is and the place to be for end-of-year celebrations. Whether it’s a mega event like Sunburn or your own private bash on a shack, the setting of surf, sand and a superb, relaxed air makes for a very special destination.

Phuket: Thailand never goes out of style. Bangkok’s got great end-of-year parties, such as the street parade on Khaosan Road. But if a beach party is your style, head to Phuket. Gorgeous beaches, trance gatherings on the shore, and people from everywhere – it’s got all the ingredients for memorable fun.

New Orleans: Jazz, creole cuisine and a stylish party scene. New Orleans with its old world charms is a perfect spot for a winter party. An array of really cool jazz clubs make it even better. And the food’s something super special, too.

Budapest: Eastern Europe is where the been there-done that traveller is headed these days. And Budapest comes out on top with its great nightlife, beautiful architecture, and lots of spas. It might be freezing outside, but you could have a blast hopping from one hot tub to another.

Barcelona: Summer time is crowded and chaotic in the Spanish city. Go in winter and you get fewer people, lower prices and a totally cool nightlife scene. What’s more, there’s plenty of winter sun during the day to keep you smiling.

Marrakesh: The Moroccan capital is the stuff of picture postcards and tourist brochures. You might think it’s all exotic souks and ancient mosques. But Marrakesh also has a pulsating club scene – catering to every taste from pop to reggae. And from here you can get away to music-worshipping towns like Essaouira.

London: There can be no party list without London occurring on it. From old world pubs to buzzing wine bars and the hippest clubs, the city has it all. And when you’re done letting your hair down at the most happening places, there’s still so much to do – parks, museums, theatre and concerts.
