Great Ideas to Celebrate this New Year
Hasn’t this year gone quickly? New year is coming around fast, so lots of people are already starting to plan what they’re going to do to celebrate. Most people will want to throw a party or attend a nightclub, but that doesn’t always have to be the case. If you don’t want to do the same old thing this year as you’ve always done, here are some alternative ideas to celebrate new year!
Run a Race
If you want to start your new year the healthy way, why not have a race? There are runs and races set up all over the place, so you can spend your new year a completely different way! Put on your warm outdoor workout gear and get going. Grab a couple of friends to do it with you too. This is a great option if you don’t want to drink and you want to have a lot of fun while staying active. At the end of many of these races you’ll find food, parties, and little festivals. Kids can do them too! Racing at midnight will always be something fun to look back on and a great story to tell.
Have a Movie Marathon
If you’d rather not leave the house but you don’t want to throw a full on house party, then why not have a movie marathon? Invite a couple of people over if you like and pick some of your favorite films to enjoy as you celebrate the new year. Make sure you have plenty of popcorn! You can rent DVDs, download films or use Netflix for your marathon. Bring the duvets into the lounge area to make it extra cosy!
Relax and Get Away from it All
If you’d like to celebrate the new year by relaxing and getting away from all of the hustle and bustle, you have a ton of options. Places like Gangtok offer amazing views in the mountains. Then there are places like Munnar, that has plenty of natural beauty and is sure to leave you feeling positive about the coming year.
Theme Based "Murder Mystery" Party
Why not host your very own murder mystery party? Rather than simply having friends over and drinking on new year, you can all work towards solving a mystery. You can buy these kits online so that you can easily set up a game. Then all you need to do is tell your guests to bring fancy dress costumes and solve the mystery! A game like this will always be more fun with a couple of drinks. Make sure you have some cocktails and punch bowls made up, you can have a look at our cocktail directory for some great ideas!

Celebrate All You’ve Achieved
If you’re spending new year alone or with just a couple of people, why not get together to celebrate yourselves? Use this time to celebrate all you’ve achieved. Focus on the things you’ve done well, and maybe make a list of a few things you’d like to do better. You could make a list of everything you’ve accomplished, and another list of everything you’d like to accomplish in the coming year. There’s no better time to celebrate yourself and find ways to improve than at the end of the year!
Learn Something New
Learn something new this new year! If your friends and you have different skills, get together and teach each other what you know. You could even look into hiring somebody for the day, although this may be a little expensive due to the occasion. You don’t necessarily need anybody else to do this though. There are a ton of courses and tutorials that you can take online to help you!
Party in Another Place
Sick of celebrating new year in the same place, with the same people? Jet off to another part of India and party there instead! Take a look at our Party Calendar as the events on there are a really popular choice for people wanting to celebrate the new year in a different way. Goa has beaches, pubs, bars and discos making it the perfect place to spend this occasion. You don’t need to go for the obvious though; Udaipur and Mumbai are good choices too. There’s something for everybody in India!
Make Healthy Cocktails
Want to stay healthy new year but don’t want to miss out on a drink or two? It’s really simple; all you need to do is make a few healthy cocktails. By using fresh fruit juices and ingredients such as green tea, there’s no need for you to miss out. You can even make them into mocktails if you’d rather not consume any alcohol at all. This way, you won’t feel as if you’re missing a thing!
Have a Pampering Evening
Use this time to pamper yourself and finish off the year feeling relaxed and beautiful. You can do a few treatments yourself, or consider heading to a spa to have a professional do them for you. Many spas and salons are still open on new year’s eve, so you should be able to find somewhere to go, providing you book in advance. When you’re done, it’s up to you how you spend the rest of the night. You could go home and relax, or get ready to go out!
Visit People in Need
There are people out there who may not be able to do much at all for new year. People in hospital and in nursing homes might not have anybody visiting them either! If you want to do something worthwhile, consider visiting people in need. You’ll put a big smile on somebody else’s face, which is a great way to start your new year. Just make sure you call first to be sure that they are taking visitors.
Go to a Gig
Live gigs are so much fun, so if you’re a music lover this is one of the best ways to celebrate new year. You’ll be able to have a drink and dance, and make some incredible memories. It doesn’t even need to be a band you have heard of. Many small bands are just as good and will still create a fun and exciting atmosphere for guests. Check out our Pub Finder to see some great places to visit. Definitely something to be considered!
Hopefully, these alternative ideas have given you some great food for thought. What will you do this coming new year?
