These are the night clubs that define Mumbai’s nightlife — have you partied here yet?
In a city that works hard and plays harder, iconic watering holes have left an indelible mark on Mumbai’s nightscape — long before you could place a permanent pin on a digital map. Regulars at Tryst may not recall Fire n Ice with reverence (even though the former now rocks where the latter once ruled), but to a generation of partygoers, this was the temple of the night. Today, the party scene in Mumbai is more dynamic than ever before and most nightclubs haven’t been able to sustain the run that 1900s (at The Taj) or RG’s did in the days before Dhoble. Nonetheless, a handful of establishments stand out from the pack and beckon the perennial party animal. With the year’s party season having officially begun, LIVEINSTYLE.COM looks at 5 venues that presently define Mumbai’s ever-changing nightlife...
Join the tribe at this relatively-new gastropub in Bandra — it has vibe and wonderment in spades! The latest magical offering from restaurateur AD Singh’s bag of tricks, Monkey Bar offers up mouth-watering bar snacks and bigger bites, while lifting your spirits with a host of impressive cocktails. Tuck into some Goan Chorizo Pao while you sip on a Monkey Masala Soda and you’ll find it easier to forgive AD for bringing this ‘Monkey’ to Mumbai the long way around — after having set up an outpost in Bangalore and two in the capital!
WHAT WE LOVE MOST: The quirky ‘Mobar’ menu and the groovy music.
If you are looking for a Bollywood twist on a night out, this lounge bar may be just what the doctor ordered. Fridays are officially dedicated to all things filmi, but you may see a silver screen legend here on any night of the week. From Kangana Ranaut to the smoking hot Arora sisters (Amrita and Malaika, of course) and occasionally even Ranbir Kapoor, the stars drop by this vibrant ‘villa’ for a tipple and a taste of wood-fired pizza. With a designated café area, charming cabanas in an open section at the rear, and a club zone that rocks into the wee hours, Villa 69 is certainly worth a visit.
WHAT WE LOVE MOST: If you can score an invitation, Villa 69 plays host to some of the coolest celebrity parties in town — including casting director Shanoo Sharma’s annual birthday blowout.
Ensconced on Level 37 and 38 at the St. Regis in Lower Parel is EXO, Mumbai’s über luxe party venue. With floor-to-ceiling windows, Osler chandeliers and plush leather upholstery, it’s no wonder that this nightclub has won several awards and accolades since it opened in 2013. Yet, glittering trappings aside, it is the exclusive guest list and man-in-charge Rishi Acharya’s Midas touch with nightclubs that sets EXO apart. With its array of popular guest DJs and a spectacular view of the city, EXO scores if you are looking for an exclusive evening out on the town.
WHAT WE LOVE MOST: EXO’s official 3am closing time!
Following in the footsteps of Lush and RA, this mid-town nightclub is particularly popular with the younger set. LED lights set the scene, while the DJ pumps out dance anthems and international club music. You can opt to eat Italian, Continental or Thai food here while you rock the night away, but this ‘tryst’ is more about the bar and less about the bites — not that anyone is complaining!
WHAT WE LOVE MOST: Tryst’s signature cocktails and entirely unfake vibe.
Touted as “Mumbai’s most alluring nightspot,” this sea-facing party hub is spread over a generous 5,000 square feet at Hotel Sea Princess in Juhu. From Pan Asian entrées to a thumping sound system, this is a dance destination that offers up themed club nights from Wednesday to Saturday. EDM and Commercial House fans should stop by on Saturday, while Hip Hop devotees should check in on Wednesday. Bar Night Thursdays are perfect if you like an extra free tipple on every drink you order, while Fridays are reserved for Global House music.
WHAT WE LOVE MOST: Believe it or not, the visually-appealing ceiling — besides the overall ambience!
