New Year Party Games That Would Make You Go Berserk

If I had to write 10 Commandments on ‘How to Celebrate Your New Year’s Party’, the word ‘alcohol’ will somehow find its way into every single one of them. At this time of the year, going insane is the only way to retain your sanity—as ironic as it sounds.

Okay, so if you can keep aside you hangover glasses for a bit and clear your blurry vision, you might get a chance to pay attention to our humble effort wherein we have come up with schemes that are sure to get you – for the lack of better word – hammered!  So hold your glasses, get a grip, and stop swaying as we enlighten you, in the spirit of McDowell’s Asli Yaari, about some of the best New Year Party Games that will introduce you to gravity—up-close and personal.

So, let’s get this party started!

Bite the Bag

This game is a textbook version on how to get yourself and your friends embarrassed. Bite the Bag is a hilarious game to watch. All you need to do to get this game in motion is to keep a brown paper bag on the floor, and then reach down and pick the brown bag with your mouth. The game gets tricky because the only thing that is allowed to touch the floor is one of your feet, and the only thing that is allowed to touch the bag is your mouth. The person who drops the bag, of course, has to take a shot or chug a glass of beer. To add more fun, just keep cutting off an inch of the bag from the top after every round. Look at it as if it is a reverse version of limbo. Let's see which one gives up first—your balance or your back bone?

Taboo

Soon as the party begins, hand everyone an index card that mentions a common word, phrase, or an action. The things mentioned should be something that people might end up doing subconsciously and not very often. Ensure that every person is given different words, phrases or actions. Now, every time you hear someone saying the word or phrase or if you see them doing those actions, you have to shout out “taboo!” and that person is required to drink.

Let us look at some of the possible gaffes:

Actions: Touch the phone; look at the watch; cross your arms!

Words: Alcohol, Peg, Pepsi, Glass!

Phrases: “Do you have ice?” “Make My Peg” or “Pass the Cigarette.”

Well, to get a sense of what it is about, check out Katy Perry playing Taboo in The Ellen Degeneres Show:

The Santa Hat

Place a nice little Santa hat on the upper of your TV, and every time someone wears it, everyone in the room has to drink.

Flip Cup

Flip Cup is a simple game which requires a lot of skill…. ahem, skill and alcohol… Never mind!

You might hate yourself for realising how incompetent you are at this, but with some patience and endurance, you might just be able to figure it all out.

Just divide the party into teams of four or five. Everyone sets a cup of beer on the table (beer, of course, because hard liquor might pass you out much before the clock strikes ‘New Year’), and races to guzzle down their beer and flip the cups upside down, starting from the table’s edge. The winner, obviously, is the first team to flip all their cups perfectly.
