New India Revolution - Indian Bands to Look-Forward To
As with every year that passes us, 2015 promises us new horizons & dimensions to explore. But where do we start our quest? Surely, at home, because home is where the heart is, & also where the art is. Indian Bands have been thriving in the indie-rock scenarios while delivering the goods consistently. With some incredible improvisations & innovations, cliché is certainly not how you’ll describe their material. So here are a few select avant-garde acts from India which you should look forward to in the coming year.
With simple yet highly meaningful Hindi lyrics, Coshish is a Mumbai –based progressive rock band which was formed by vocalist/song-writer Mangesh Gandhi & guitarist Shrikant Shrinivasan. The band has gained solid acclaim & strong fan-base and have been performing regularly across the country.
A band which began primarily as a Rage Against The Machine cover band, Kochi-based Whitesugar elevated to another level when they released their original album : Sugar Rush. While throwing in some malayam lyrics in between & some improvised guitar riffs, they’ve got the western & south-indian blend mix perfectly. And it’s not just their songs, they are equal with their on-stage gimmickry, donning the famous ‘Indian Swamy’ costumes.
Sky Rabbit (formerly known as ’Medusa’) is a Mumbai-based electro-pop-rock group have created their own unique niche among their contemporaries. The band, more often than not, come up with a languid, lazy yet elegant tunes which simply makes you feel warm.
Chennai-based Skrat is a three-piece band of former engineering students who came together way back in 2006. They essentially play very energetic, in-your-face style alt-garage rock. Real tight drums, paired with strong, groovy riffs & bass is what Skrat’s music is characterized of.
The F-16s are an electro-alternative rock group from Chennai, that was formed in 2012. Heavily influenced by bands such as The Strokes & Arctic Monkeys, one can easily recognize their traits in the band’s music, which is a good mix of psychedelic , electronica & alternative rock.
