How To Look Dapper Like Bollywood Stars This Party Season
The party season has kicked in and it is time to be all suited, booted, and play the charmer at the soirées. While the sharply cut suit that sits snuggly in your wardrobe is your best bet – this New Year season, in the spirit of Signature, take inspiration from Bollywood style icons to spice up your look and be the best-dressed man at the party.
The Smart Casual
This is the perfect look for a friend’s house party or an evening with family and Bollywood hunks are loving it too. However, it can get tricky to get this look right as the spectrum is incredibly broad – from a tuxedo-denim pairing to polo necks, slim fit shirts, and bow ties – it is all about putting an ensemble together that defines chic and comfort. “Take cue from Bollywood’s heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor and keep the look suave – dark denims and dress it up with blazers, button- downs with a plain black tee or slim-fit shirt, add a pair of formal shoes and you are ready to impress one and all at the party,” says fashion stylist Heena. She adds, “Fitting is the key, ensure that whichever jacket or blazer you zero down on has a good fit.” One can also skip the blazer and complete the look with a jacket – tee and a fedora like Farhan Akhtar or simply stick to a clean crisp white shirt over blue jeans or chinos.” Chinos are appropriate and are trending, but if you're confused then denim is your best bet. Loafers, brogues, formals shoes, boots, Oxfords or boat shoes are ideal to finish this look.
The Classic Tux
If it is the black-tie night, then it is time to flash your suave elegance. Raise your style quotient by taking inspiration from the likes of Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh Khan. “The key again is the fit. A good tailored dinner jacket will always look good. Ensure that the facing material on the lapels match the braiding on the trousers,” warns Heena. What you wear inside the tux is equally important to ensure you don’t go wrong with your look. “Instead of a coloured or a patterned shirt, go for a plain white one. Choose the type of colour based on the type of tie that you plan on wearing. Go for a bow tie, it works well with a flat or winged collar. You can enhance the look with a cummerbund like Arjun Rampal and finish the look with well-shined patent leather shoes,” suggests Heena. One can further accentuate the look by adding a boutonnière to the lapel buttonhole like Siddharth Malhotra.
Go For The Velvet
This luxurious fabric adds to the festive touch and has a strong presence this season. So go ahead make your style statement with the rich smooth fabric. “Note that an ill-fitting velvet attire can make you look lumpish. Keep it simple and do not overdo it either by going for embroidered velvet jackets. Pair a velvet jacket with smart black trousers. Avoid a whole velvet suit,” says the expert. “Take cue from the Bachchan’s who wear their velvet with utmost elegance or the youngster Varun Dhawan, who brings flair and elegance in abundance with his mandarin collar, burgundy jacket in matte velvet with a silk pocket square,” recommends Heena. Marrying a velvet blazer with a well-fitting pair of slim jeans or chinos creates a relaxed yet party savvy look - get inspired by Ranveer Singh’s extremely chic attire.
Suit It Up
Of course, suits are the safest option to look dapper at any party. However, give your work suit a break and look for one that is sharper and cuts a little closer. Heena explains, “The key to achieving the elegance that resonates from this classic attire is the fit. Just like our Bollywood’s Nawab Saif Ali Khan, who kept his look relaxed yet chic in a pinstripe suit. One can inject some personality to the look with pocket squares or silk scarves.” You can also opt for patterned suit like John Abraham and add a bit of pizzazz with a bright coloured tie. The look can be further accessorized by including a tie bar or a pin.
If you are sporting, want to stand apart from the crowd and make a loud style statement – simply go quirky. “There are plenty of options, depending on just how comfortable and confident you are with experimenting. Siddharth Malhotra in his monochrome checked shirt, bottle green tie with blue pants, sleeveless mustard sweater, grey tweed jacket and brown shoes shows us how to go quirky with style,” says Heena. For those who are still confused about the look - get inspired by Ranveer Singh and his quirky styles, which are always a head turner like the printed shirt, and grey suit combo he teamed with a fedora or the floral jacket that he sported with ease and confidence exhibiting his eccentric style statement. “One can go for patterned bottoms with a complementary, neutral-coloured blazer – grey and navy, and black and grey, are two colour combinations… it can never go wrong. Polka dots, camo print, paisley and flecked designs are also trending and worth considering if you want to make a style statement with a difference,” sums up Heena.
