“Sometimes you need to fall out with your best friend to know how much you actually value them,” said Farah Khan recently in a leading daily. Obviously, she was talking about her infamous fall out with best bud Shah Rukh Khan.
It’s no secret that Farah Khan and Shah Rukh Khan have shared a special bond of friendship ever since they met on the sets of ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’, when she was a budding choreographer and Shah Rukh had yet to reach the peak of his career. They hit off like a house on fire and stood by each other. In fact, it was Shah Rukh, who encouraged and supported Farah’s dream of directing a film. Not only did he starred in her directorial debut - ‘Main Hoon Na’ but also produced it. The film proved to be a hit and the amigos went on to make another cinematic extravaganza – 'Om Shanti Om.'
Their dosti flourished with time; however, misunderstandings, fights, arguments etc are inevitable in any long-term relationships. Shah Rukh – Farah friendship too faced some rough weather, when for her third film ‘Tees Maar Khan’ Farah signed Akshay Kumar instead of her dear friend Shah Rukh. Apparently, Shah Rukh had earlier refused to do her husband – Shirish Kunder’s film 'Joker' citing date issues, which didn’t go well with Farah and Shirish.
To add to it, Kunder later took potshots at Shah Rukh’s 'Ra.One', calling it a "150cr firework fizzle" on twitter. Matters worsened and really got out of hand when Shah Rukh slapped Kunder at Sanjay Dutt’s party.
The entire Bollywood industry thought it was the end of whatever was left of the Farah-SRK friendship. But the ones who share genuine love and affection overcome all adversities, and sort out all differences to save the precious bond of friendship. That is what ‘asli yaari’ is all about isn’t it… Soon enough, the B-town buddies, Farah-Shah Rukh patched up, and are already back to making movies together. Their dream project ‘Happy New Year’ is all set to release this year.
“If you ever had a best friend, you would know that it is quite normal for friends to fight or have misunderstandings. But as long as there is love, you can sort it out. Shah Rukh and I realized that things had become ugly. He was heartbroken with whatever happened. I was in shock too. When we met, we realized how others were having a gala time at our expense. It took us around three minutes to sort things out,” said an elated Farah in an interview.
In the same interview, Farah further elaborated her restlessness, when she was not on talking terms with Shah Rukh, “In the days that we were not talking, Shah Rukh was very disturbed even though both of us put up an act of being nonchalant. I can tell you that I, for one, spent several sleepless nights before we broke up. Recently, he showed me a chapter from his book which he has written about me and as I read it, I began to cry. It talks about the time we did not talk to each other and he has written , ‘I want to somehow catch her and tell her to come back to me and make movies and to also ask her 'Why did you go away?'. Both of us had certain issues with each other, which had been festering for a while but I have known Shah Rukh from before he became a big star. We worked together in ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’. In a sense we have grown up together. He may not be there for all sorts of small things but I know whenever I really need him, he will be there for me. Perhaps we both needed that bucket of water to be thrown on our faces.”
Touchwood, all is well between the best buddies today. Recently, when Farah’s car crashed, Shah Rukh gifted her a black top-class Mercedes SUV, in the past too Shah Rukh has gifted Farah two cars – one after they completed ‘Main Hoon Na’ and the other after the completion of ‘Om Shanti Om.’
Some ties of friendships are simply meant to last forever. A toast to Farah-Shah Rukh’s ‘asli yaari’!
