A bond that is meant for forever: Karan Johar & Gauri Khan

There is no doubt that Karan Johar shares a special bond with the Baadshah of Bollywood — Shah Rukh Khan, however ask him to name his best bud, and without battling even an eyelid the ‘Student Of The Year’ director is sure to mention — Gauri Khan.

Yes, you heard it right, it is the King Khan’s wife and not the ‘Chennai Express’ star who is KJo’s closest pal. “Shah Rukh is not my friend. He is a parent figure, my elder brother. He is the only person in the world who has the right to slap me. He walks into a room, I stand up. Till he doesn’t sit, I keep standing. However, with Gauri my equation is different. She is someone who I can pick up the phone and call up even at 4 am and she will listen to me patiently. She is always there for me,” reveals Karan, who has often managed to get the usually shy and introvert Gauri on his chat show – ‘Koffee With Karan’.

In an industry, where true bonds of friendships are rare, Karan and Gauri share a warm camaraderie, which has even stood the test of time. Few years ago, there was apparently a rift between the ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ director and his favorite Khan, however, Gauri and Karan did not let those differences mar their friendship in any way and continued to be friends. They even took a trip to London together to spend time with Gauri’s son Aryan Khan, silencing all rumormongers who predicted an end to their amity. Karan even made a statement that time stating, “Shah Rukh, Gauri and I are a unit that has evolved beyond the realms of the film fraternity. Nothing or no one can ever come between us." The comment speaks a lot about his asli yaari with Gauri.

When not holidaying together to exotic locations like Venice, London, Dubai, the duo is often seen together having a good time over lunches and at parties. Supposedly, the two are a riot together and can spend hours together gossiping about the world. “We even gossip about my husband,” confesses Gauri. In fact when she was asked on a talk show who would she like for company if she was marooned on a deserted island, she had promptly said, “Karan, absolutely, there is no choice here. He can keep me entertained 24X7.”

Gauri is so fond of Karan that she even walked the ramp as his showstopper few years ago when Karan debuted with his own design line in association with Varun Bahl at the HDIL Couture Week. Gauri has always shown her support towards her friend by being present at all events that are hosted by Karan. Be it his birthdays, film events, success parties etc, Gauri is always seen celebrating her friend’s happy moments. Likewise, Karan too is a regular at all parties and get-togethers hosted by Gauri at Mannat.

And irrespective of his equation with SRK, Karan claims that his equation with Gauri will never change. “I met Shah Rukh first, but Gauri was always my friend. With him, it was never a friendship, but reverence. Gauri is my pal, my friend, my lifeline and nothing can ever change that,” says the director-producer.

Now that’s what we call asli yaari – a bond that is meant to last forever.
