If you are a collector of pop-culture memorabilia, here’s a snippet that is sure to be sweet music to your ears. On March 17, bidding began on a handful of possessions belonging to the musician formerly known as Prince. From the rhinestone-encrusted handcuffs he wore on stage in 1994 (during his performance of ‘The Most Beautiful Girl in the World’) to his Gibson acoustic guitar and some handwritten lyrics — these priceless items were put up for auction by the music icon’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia and his former manager Owen Husney.
Included in the items on offer was the diamond ring Prince gave Mayte on their engagement (with bids beginning at $100,000), besides handwritten notes penned by the singer on heart-shaped paper. While several pieces have since found proud new owners, a handful of unsold items are still available for purchase from the Nate D. Sanders auction house. With five per cent of the final sale value headed for a charity that supports grieving children, this is a fantastic opportunity to own a piece of music history, while doing something charitable as well.
