5 celebrity super-yachts you’d love to look at!
A custom-made super-yacht is the single most ostentatious demonstration of wealth in a rarefied stratosphere — a dazzling trophy kitted out with every excess imaginable, including pricey art, monogrammed linen and helicopters that can fly to the nearest gourmet store for some Beluga caviar! It’s no wonder then that many of the world’s most famous faces own luxury yachts, where they party hard with other famous friends, away from prying eyes.
Get in the know with our list of celebrity super-yachts that have hosted star-studded parties on the high seas — after all, nothing exemplifies the high life better!
BONO’S KINGDOM COME
U2 lead singer Bono bought his super-yacht ‘Nara’ from the family of a former prime minister of Lebanon and rechristened it ‘Kingdom Come’. Perhaps he was bolstered to buy the beauty by band mate The Edge, who co-owns a Codecasa yacht. Nonetheless, since splashing out reportedly over $11 million on the 1979 Feadship behemoth, Bono has rocked the boat (literally!) by having friends and family on board often. Gliding across the French Riviera with wife Ali Hewson is made easy by a crew of 17. But with accommodation available for up to 26 guests (in a variety of gorgeous nautical-inspired suites) and a dance floor and Jacuzzi too, Bono enjoys entertaining in style on the high seas!
STARS ON BOARD: Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, his actress wife Isla Fisher and Oasis singer Noel Gallagher are amongst those who have partied on Kingdom Come.
STEVEN SPIELBERG’S THE SEVEN SEAS
Owned by the Jaws filmmaker, this $184 million blockbuster has been spotted cruising around the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Built by Dutch shipbuilding company Oceanco in 2010, it is styled by award-winning Italian design house Nuvolari Lenard. Spielberg took her out for a 30,000 mile spin through Hawaii, China and Sri Lanka before putting her on the market again because he needed a (gasp!) bigger yacht! The Seven Seas boasts of a helipad, a gym, a spa, a massage room and an infinity pool with a 15-foot glass wall that functions as a... no prizes for guessing... movie screen!
STARS ON BOARD: Hollywood A-listers including Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Blake Lively and Oprah Winfrey have been aboard.
JAY-Z’S GALACTICA STAR
We can tell you, without a doubt, that Jay-Z and his beautiful wife Beyoncé spent the week of Queen Bey’s 32nd birthday swimming, sunning and celebrating aboard the gorgeous Galactica Star, with some of their luckiest pals for company. We can also tell you that the luxury yacht ferried the group from Spain to Italy. What is uncertain, however, is whether Jay-Z bought the boat from Nigerian energy magnate Kola Aluko after this outing — some reports suggest this, but there’s no official word on it from camp Carter. Either way, with interiors designed by London-based Bannenberg & Rowell, room for up to 12 guests, a full-beam master suite with private balcony, a VIP suite on the upper deck, a glass-bottomed swimming pool and a helipad, this $73 million mega-yacht has seen some serious party action!
STARS ON BOARD: With Mrs. Carter and her man Jay-Z sunbathing on the deck, does one really need any additional star power? Nonetheless, we’ll mention singer Kelly Rowland for good measure.
GIORGIO ARMANI’S MAÌN
In a class of its own, this emerald-hued and exceedingly elegant super-yacht — designed by Italian firm Codecasa — is fashion designer Giorgio Armani’s hideaway on the high seas. The 163-foot Maìn is Armani’s second yacht; his previous vessel was Mariù, which was named after his mother. Maìn distinguishes itself on this list by the very fact that it is entirely conceptualised by its owner, in his signature colour palette of grey and beige — from the light Birchwood blinds and dark lacquered walls outside, to the Armani Casa sofas, stools, coffee tables and more that make the interiors ultra-plush.
STARS ON BOARD: Armani entertains small groups of close friends on Maìn. Past guests include actress Naomi Watts, model Eugenia Silva and Victoria’s Secret Angel Bar Refaeli.
GAUTAM SINGHANIA’S M Y ASHENA
Gautam Singhania’s passion for fast cars, boats and planes is well documented — he owns a couple more yachts and four speedboats named after James Bond movies — but this luxury yacht is reportedly closest to the heart of the flamboyant Raymond Group CEO. Ashena is one of the few yachts in the world with a hull constructed entirely out of Burma Teak wood, showcasing a blend of tradition, glamour and tech savvy across its generous expanse. The interiors bear Singhania’s stamp for detail and perfection with some extraordinary artefacts and furniture, like the marble-topped bar in the main saloon that is held up by seven solid silver elephants!
STARS ON BOARD: Elizabeth Hurley spent time aboard M Y Ashena during her 2007 wedding in India.
