Ode to Lesvos, the latest release is an incredible story of the islanders of Lesvos. The film shines a light on how an island of 150 in Skala Sikamineas, Greece who inspite of being in the middle of their own economic crisis are people with an unbreakable spirit of generosity. In the face of extraordinary tragedy, these islanders not only rescued half a million refugees fleeing the Syrian war but also gave them hope for a better tomorrow.
The uplifting support of three islanders whose uncompromising positivity in the worst of conditions has earned them a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
“Can you really ignore what’s in front of your eyes? Because tomorrow it could be me. I could be on a boat with my family and I would like to be helped,” says fisherman Stratis Valamios.
This time 12 months ago, Stratis’ life changed beyond recognition as he spent months on end rescuing men, women and children from the waters around his home. His village, with a population of around 150, became the front line of the refugee crisis as hundreds of thousands of people came ashore, fleeing war and seeking a better future.
