Jackets - An essential part of a man's wardrobe

We live in a supremely social world which means the requisite spate of catching up for work, pleasure and leisure is a continuous process. This means we are constantly creating and making impressions, the aim is to make a lasting one. The easiest and the smartest way to do so, is by prim and classy dressing.

Sartorial conundrums are an ongoing affair with most of us. When do we know what is too much or too little? To simplify let us begin with the basics. A must have in every man’s wardrobe is “The Jacket”. Yes it has already crossed over from the good-to-have line to the must -have line. There are so many different types of them. Of course you don’t have to have them all. However a few cannot be ignored as they define your wardrobe and give you tons of styling options.

1.The classic checkered Jacket: Begin building your jacket collection with the classic checkered one. They are extremely versatile. Wear them for meetings and accessorize with a pocket square and a tie. Convert this to an evening casual look by teaming it with a pair of well tailored slackers and a tee. However if you are still stuck in the 60’s or the 70’s (the most fashionable era), then team them with similar checkered trousers and you’re good to go

2.The camel jacket: The iconic camel jackets stood the test of time. They have been trending for a long time and are here to stay. Camel jackets are ideal for semi formal occasions and for achieving the laid back minus the sloppy look. They go perfectly well with jeans, terry wool and cotton trousers. Throw on a fedora, a bow tie or formal knee length shorts on a bold dressing day.

3.The Bomber Jacket: The extremely popular bomber jackets are perfect to look like the super stylish gangsters of New York. They are not your regular sporty jacket, have quite a bit of detailing making them a little tricky to wear but when worn well it certainly commands attention. Do not team them with similar colored pair of pants, if you absolutely must, then make sure they are at different ends of the spectrum, e.g. dark grey teamed with light grey.

4.The colored parable: If you are the experimental dresser and love to play with style, then a colored jacket will certainly match your sensibilities. It is not as tricky to wear as it may look. One important styling tip here is to mute everything else that you are wearing, highlighting just the jacket. It will work wonders when worn on a late evening date or otherwise.

5.The Trench Coat: The ode to Sherlock Holmes look is best achieved with a trench coat. Wear it casually or team it with formals, perfect for a morning to evening look. Your ensemble can be wayfarers, a smart briefcase and loafers to look your best.
