Shaadi goals you should adopt from Lisa Haydon’s dreamy destination wedding
Housefull 3 actress and former Kingfisher Calendar girl Lisa Haydon broke a million hearts when she tied the knot with UK-based telecommunications tycoon Dino Lalvani late last month. In a spectacular sunset ceremony, the comely couple said their ‘I dos’ with only their closest family and friends in attendance. It’s been called a dream wedding by everyone who has seen pictures of the intimate ceremony and, of course, we’re happy to share some of those images with you. But, better still, we’re offering up our five top tips from Lisa’s lovely beach wedding, to help you plan the wedding of your dreams!
BEGIN WITH A THEME
Even when Lisa was planning to tie the knot with former fiancé Karan Bhojwani some years ago, she had hoped for a beach wedding. While that relationship didn’t quite pan out, Lisa’s dream for a beach wedding endured. With a stunning sunset ceremony set on the sands in Phuket, Thailand, the gorgeous actress got exactly the kind of wedding she had always envisioned. Take a page from Lisa’s book and think about the broad theme you’d like for your big day. Be it a beach wedding, a celebration drawn from vintage inspiration or a theme defined by a colour palette, it’s always good to begin by identifying your theme.
STAY TRUE TO YOUR DREAM
If, like Lisa and Dino, you are opting for a beach wedding, then commit to the theme in toto. Lisa and her bridesmaids walked barefoot to the beach — #toesinsand being so much smarter than stuck stilettos! When making décor related decisions, ask yourself if you are deviating too much from the theme and pull back when needed. Don’t opt for a beach wedding and then build a mandap that’s so intricate, you can’t even see the ocean! If you have picked a destination or theme, then just enjoy it for what it is, rather than tampering too much with what’s natural.
DON’T WORRY, BE HAPPY
Lisa’s dreamy one-shoulder wedding gown, with its delicate train and sheer veil, was a designer masterpiece. Yet, protecting the gown (from sand or surf) was the furthest thing from her mind when the bride stepped out to meet her dapper groom on their wedding day. Once the festivities had begun, it was all about love, family and fun — and that’s an important thing to remember while planning a wedding. Feel free to worry about the nitty-gritties in advance, but focus on the significance of the moment (and not on material things) once the actual action begins.
SET THE MOOD
Walking down a flight of stairs in her billowing, beautiful gown — escorted by her father, bridesmaids and flower girls — Lisa had guests whispering “wow” and cheering her on in awe. There was no doubt the bride looked like ‘The most beautiful girl in the world,’ but the Nineties hit song by Prince played anyway, to mark the moment. Music plays a large part in setting the scene, so make sure you plan your playlist in advance. Also plan your beverage menu with care. As soon as Lisa and Dino had exchanged their vows, guests raised a toast to the newlyweds with champagne in hand. Keep spirits high and the celebrations going by making adequate provisions, based on the preferences of your guests.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LOVE
For their destination wedding at the Amanpuri resort in Thailand, Lisa and Dino had only a handful of guests in attendance. With the big, fat Indian wedding increasingly being axed in favour of the intimate destination wedding, the odds are you will have to sacrifice the presence of a fair few people you care about, while pruning your guest list. Don’t feel guilty about it. Instead, plan a massive shindig of a reception once you get back home, to share the love with everyone who couldn’t take the trip with you.
