Bollywood celebrities who have had the most romantic destination weddings
It’s the one day that you can truly feel like a star, so why not opt for a dreamy destination wedding inspired by these stars? LIVEINSTYLE.COM picks the most memorable celebrity nuptials that set spectacular wedding goals!
LARA DUTTA & MAHESH BHUPATHI
When the invitation arrived, decked with a profusion of pink roses on gilt paper, we knew this wedding would be particularly memorable. It has been several years since, but Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi’s destination wedding in Goa is still the gold standard when it comes to striking a balance between cool and classic. Roses and romance were very much in evidence at the Taj’s Fort Aguada property, as the actress and her tennis star groom exchanged their vows with the sun setting over the sea behind them. From Lara’s Elie Saab gown to their heartfelt vows, this destination wedding was as intimate and romantic as one can imagine.
GO GOA: This jewel on India’s west coast has played venue to various celebrity weddings, including the nuptials of Varun Dhawan’s brother Rohit Dhawan to Jaanvi Desai and TV actress Anita Hassanandani’s marriage to Rohit Reddy. We recommend Goa for its beach vibe and plethora of resorts suited to host a destination wedding.
NAINA BACHCHAN & KUNAL KAPOOR
Though they hosted a massive, star-studded reception in New Delhi soon after their February 9, 2015 wedding, Kunal Kapoor and Naina Bachchan first enjoyed an extremely intimate destination do in Seychelles. Investment banker Naina (daughter of Ajitabh Bachchan) opted to exchange her vows with Kunal on the beach itself, with blue waters providing a breath-taking backdrop. Only a handful of chairs were placed for those in attendance, with the simple message ‘Our Love, Our Life’ setting the scene for the day.
SOAK IN SEYCHELLES: The idyllic Seychelles islands have been called “the most romantic archipelago in the world” and we can vouch for the fact that their white-sand beaches and azure waters make for a matchless wedding venue. Though George Clooney and bride Amal Alamuddin chose Venice for their destination wedding, it was in Seychelles that they spent their honeymoon.
NISHKA LULLA & DHRUV MEHRA
Designer to the stars, Neeta Lulla pulled out all the stops when her daughter Nishka married Dhruv Mehra at Anantara Riverside in Bangkok. Set on the banks of the Chao Phraya river, the resort has lush tropical gardens and luxurious suites in equal measure, making it a dream destination — but the details added by the hosts upped the ‘wow’ factor to another level. Arriving by boat in a spectacular lehenga, Nishka’s 30-foot-long sheer trail added oomph to an already enviable setting. From their cake (that needed a sword to cut it!) to the local entertainment (that left over 200 guests enthralled), every minute aspect was planned to perfection.
TERRIFIC THAILAND: Picture-perfect resort properties, scenic city views, Thai food, the relative proximity to India — these are all great reasons to consider Bangkok, Phuket or elsewhere in Thailand as ideal locations for a romantic destination wedding. No wonder Housefull 3 actress Lisa Haydon chose it too!
ARPITA KHAN & AAYUSH SHARMA
One doesn’t have to fly halfway around the world to have a destination wedding fit for royalty. Ask Salman Khan’s little sister Arpita, who tied the knot with beau Aayush Sharma at the fantastic Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad. Under the attentive eye of brothers Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail, Arpita had the dreamiest of dream weddings; with Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Karan Johar and other A-listers in attendance. Of course the venue itself was one of the biggest highlights — the décor was sensational, the cake was humongous, the buffet lavish and the entertainment included some mast music by Mika Singh.
HEAVENLY HYDERABAD: While the city itself doesn’t quite have the vistas of say Seychelles or Italy (where Nikesh Arora wed Delhi beauty Ayesha Thapar, with Ashton Kutcher in attendance), the Taj’s Falaknuma Palace offers up an experience so elevated, one needn’t step out of the hotel at all. If you can house your guests on site and entertain them here as well, this is an ideal destination wedding venue.
