Will and Kate get ‘social’ with Riyaaz Amlani

Gift for Will and Kate from India

Riyaaz Amlani must have grappled with a million thoughts when his mid-town Social was selected to host the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on April 11, during the royal visit to Mumbai. Amongst the many decisions to be made by the CEO and MD of Impresario Entertainment was this one: What do you give a man who has everything? It’s a question we have offered up answers for time and again and, like us, Amlani appears to have found a good answer too.

When Will and Kate visited Riyaaz’s collaborative workspace-cum-café to kick-off the ‘GREAT for Collaboration’ campaign (launched by the UK government to celebrate and inspire collaborations between UK and India), Riyaaz presented them with a unique 3D printed memento of the ‘Make in India’ lion and the British imperial lion — symbolising the “unbeatable” relationship between the UK and India.

Given this campaign aims to explore how the UK can partner with home-grown Indian start-ups to achieve mutual goals, Amlani’s leonine gift was fitting. We love the subtle suggestion of two lions meeting on equal turf — almost 70 years after the British officially ‘quit India’. As for the event itself, it was a ‘roaring’ success too!
