Here’s our latest reason for being so impressed with Amitabh Bachchan

Amitabh Bachan with Shweta Nanda

No matter how many ‘girl child prosperity schemes’ our government may launch, nothing compares to a straight-from-the-heart celebrity endorsement — especially if it comes from the country’s biggest (the pun is unintentional) living legend.

On January 15, while cinema’s superstars gathered to collect their Filmfare Awards and cheer others in their fraternity on their achievements, the Big B made us proud. On winning the Critics Award for Best Actor (Male) for ‘Piku,’ Mr. Bachchan took a moment to dedicate his trophy to daughter Shweta Bachchan-Nanda. Smiling from ear to ear through her illustrious father’s acceptance speech, Shweta sighed (along with the rest of us) when Mr. Bachchan explained the reason for this tribute with a simple “kyunki betiyan khaas hoti hain.”

Official ‘Incredible India’ brand ambassador or not, this moment seemed unscripted and special for both daddy B and his beti. Sometimes all it takes to change perception and boldly battle archaic value systems is a simple statement. More power to the thought!
