Believe in love but not in Valentine’s Day? Here are some Hollywood stars who share the sentiment…

We love chocolates and roses and candlelight dinners so, by extension, we love Valentine’s Day. But there are others who believe in love and not in Valentine’s Day. If you are amongst that lot, many of our V-Day recommendations are good for any other special occasion as well — so be sure to read our stories and pick up the tips that work for you. In the meantime, you may well enjoy this list of Hollywood stars who don’t buy into the ‘one day of love’ mush.

CARRIE UNDERWOOD

Carrie Underwood

She has sung a fair few love songs, but Carrie Underwood is “anti-Valentine’s Day,” by her own admission. “I don’t believe your man should love you for one day out of 365. He should love you 365 days out of the year. I want Valentine’s Day every day,” says the country music star. If you are anti-Valentine’s Day but pro-Valentine’s Year (all year, ever year), we’re not sure what to make of it!

ASHTON KUTCHER

Ashton Kutcher

He treats his wife and baby-momma Mila Kunis like a princess, but he won’t buy her ten thousand roses on Valentine’s Day. Why? Because he hates V-Day! “I think every day should be a day of romance. Then, on Valentine’s Day, you should get to tell whoever you hate that you cannot stand them. There would be one day of hating, and 364 days of love.”

DREW BARRYMORE

Drew Barrymore

The ‘Never Been Kissed’ actress doesn’t buy into the cards and roses gig, though she is no stranger to love. “I don’t think I’ve ever done that really conventional romantic thing,” says Drew, adding, “I like being with my friends and having a fun time.” Drew’s perspective is unique though. Her issue with V-Day is that it’s a celebration that has the potential to make some people feel unloved. “I feel so bad when… people feel really bad; it’s so not fair.”

PATRICK DEMPSEY

Patrick Dempsey

Women around the world call him ‘McDreamy’ but TV’s Derek Shepherd is no fan of mushy celebrations, if they’re forced. “I’ve never really believed in Valentine’s Day,” he confessed some years ago. “You’re anxious about buying the right gift, but it’s really about your heart… The best Valentine’s Days are magical and spontaneous and just sort of unfold.” Well, if Valentine’s Day could ‘unfold’ with Patrick Dempsey, a whole heap of people would like it better.
