The Most Dramatic IPL moments for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014
Royal Challengers Bangalore, as the name says it, is always up for a challenge and keeps its spirits high even in some of the most bizarre situations. Some moments in IPL remain indelible in your memory for the drama and controversy they create. Here are some memorable moments of RCB that occurred last year in the IPL season 7:
An ugly spat between Pollard and Mitchell Starc
During a heated match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, Kieron Pollard lost his cool while batting and burst out at RCB’s bowler Mitchell Starc. Apparently, Starc and Pollard were having heated exchanges from the beginning of the match. So Pollard, while batting at his crease, shuffled his feet and moved away as he wanted the side screen to be shifted. However, Starc had already taken his run-up and bowled the ball anyway. This infuriated Pollard immensely, following which he attacked Starc by throwing his bat in the bowler’s direction. Nevertheless, the bat slipped off his hand and fell on the ground. This incident had most of the players as well as umpires involved.
The unbelievably epic catch by Chris Lynn
Chris Lynn left the audience stunned by his brilliant catch in saving AB de Villiers off-boundary aim. Lynn happened to slip while surging ahead for the ball, but quickly calculated that the ball would land him on the ropes. So he made a smart move by lunging back and caught hold of the flying ball in mid-air. While falling on the floor, he ensured he curled his body to avoid contact with the ropes—a perfect spectacle in a match between RCB and KKR.
Star of the match- AB de Villiers Power Play
AB de Villiers gave it his best shot, smashing six after six off every bowler who hurled a ball at him. His glory continued to thrive, sparing not even Dale Steyn, the fastest bowler in the world. Steyn’s bowling efforts were smashed to three sixes and a four by the relentless AB. The marvellous showdown put the crowd in frenzy and earned AB a generous 89 runs in 41 balls, trampling Sunrisers Hyderabad by Royal Challengers Bangalore’s one man show.
The expensive tug of war for Yuvraj Singh at the auction
Yuvraj Singh, the man in demand for many reasons, was won over by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 for a whopping Rs 14 crore in the Indian Premier League player’s auction in Bangalore. RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders attempted to bag the left-handed batting all-rounder in an intense bidding war, while RCB got a hands-down win by putting a handsome bid in the first round of the auction, creating breaking news about the expensive star. Also, Virat Kohli had publicly expressed his urge to make Yuvraj a part of the team.
Parthiv Patel and AB de Villiers save the day
In RCB’s game against Mumbai Indians, the situation didn’t seem too good for RCB when they had lost three wickets in succession during the early innings. While the struggle was still on, Parthiv Patel managed to hit half a century and grabbed the ‘Man of the Match’ at 45 not out. Villers chipped in by hitting a four off the last ball of the 17th over and went on an impressive 42 run-haul not out. The duo added 80 runs for the fourth wicket to guide the team to 116 for three in 18 overs and gave a good boost to the team’s lagging score.
