Like the concept note says, Yauatcha is all about dim sums. Never has a dim sum looked so pretty or been pleated with such fine precision.
A simple Har Gau filled with succulent prawns carries 17 pleats on its humble rice paper covering, transforming this basic dim sum into an exotic work of art. We tried the Pork and Prawn Shui Mai and were pleasantly surprised by the variety of flavours that exploded on the tongue.
There are two must-tries when you dine at Yauatcha: the Cheung Fun, be it with prawns, chicken or any other meat. This unique roll, where the meat is first wrapped in a crispy tempura roll before being covered with rice paper and then doused with warm soya sauce, is possibly the most exclusive dish on the menu. Then there’s the visually appealing Golden Fried Chicken Puff that looks like a miniature version of a coconut. The delicate puff has been created using a whisk and whip technique with the batter in order to get the stringy coating.
If you’ve stuffed yourself with dim sums, you can easily skip the main course. However, if you must try one thing, make it the crispy fried lamb with raw mango. Wrap up the meal with a Raspberry Delish. Shaped like a ruby red flower, this raspberry-coated chocolate mousse is sinfully rich and artfully presented.
