Fio—Cookhouse & Bar may be situated in the somewhat awkward Nehru Place, but do make the trip there for some delightfully flavoursome Italian food.

This swanky new restaurant sits bang in the middle of the commercial hub in New Delhi, but once you enter the eatery you’ll be surprised at how remarkably it is done up so that guests can escape the hustle-bustle in these mellow quarters with its well-balanced lighting and greenery. Enough legroom means that no matter how full it is, you will not have to jostle for space. Stationed at one corner of the food mall, this restaurant is dominated by browns and olives and, yes, spectacular food!

We gorged on the starters of Spit Fire Grilled Chicken and Phylo Tazza (a delicious creamy mix of mushrooms and bell peppers served on a basket of cheese-flavoured phylo pastry). For the main course, it was the Olive Crusted Rawas (a delicate and flavourful dish, wherein the fish wasn’t overwhelmed with spices and condiments) and the Ricotta Spinach Cappelletti (that had a lovely melt-in-your-mouth texture). For dessert, it was the Fio Chocolate Flan—a mascarpone chocolate cake which sits atop a crumby biscuit served with a dollop of chocolate sauce. Delightfully sinful!
