Desserts that will 'Spike' up your dinner!

No meal is considered complete without dessert and for many people. It isn't a party till there is alcohol. If you combined the two it could be a lethal combination. Alcohol in decent quantities can elevate certain foods and bring a complete change to its flavour. In fact it's been known to spruce up some of the most boring bland desserts. In a day and age where chefs and bakers are battling it out to churn out more creative treats not every creation passes muster. Here is a list of some delectable goodies that we thought were worth a second bite.

Tiramisu:This Italian mix of cheese, coffee and generous amounts of Amaretto seems to be the universal mother of all spiked desserts. It's richness and flavourful combinations is a winner for many dessert darlings but the best and most authentic Tiramisu is one in which you can taste the alcohol. You can tell how popular this dessert is when it's a recurring feature on most restaurant dessert menus.

Christmas Rum Plum cake: Christmas time, like any other festive time, is all about food drink and making merry. The traditional Christmas plum cake is a wonderful mixture of all three! This fruity nutty rum, or in some occasions brandy soaked cake is one of the best desserts you can get your hands on. However, it's a tiresome process and only made during Xmas time. A dessert that is available only once a year is a tease but when you bite into that divine slice of goodness you realise it's well worth the wait.

Tequila Lime cupcakes: Move over chocolate chip and red velvet. There's a new player in town and he means business. Sink your teeth into the lethal combination of zesty lime flavoured cake with icing that has a healthy dose of tequila infused in it and I promise it will change the way you look at cupcakes forever.

Rum Jelly: This is exactly as the name suggested its jelly with tons of rum. This is pretty creative and can be replicated at home, making it a great dessert to serve even at a dinner party. The combination of the cool jelly and the warm hit of rum that will make any sweet toothed person swoon. In fact, a modern day adaptation of this old invention is the classic jello shots or then even when you dunk your gummy bears in vodka, freeze them a bit and then bite into it. Simply Rum-tastic!
