Easy Hacks For An Unforgettable House Party
Planning a bash at home? Besides having your best pals over, there are a few essentials that’ll make it rock. There’s the music, the food and, of course, the hub of it all – the bar. Here’s how to set up one:
Set up the space
Clear the party area. Have seating arrangements only if you have the luxury of space. Where is your bar going to be? Pick a zone that’s out of the main ‘flow’ of the party because people tend to hang about around the bar. If you have a room that opens on to a terrace, that’s a good place to set up your bar as well.
Mise-en-place essentially means stocking up and putting things in place where your guests can find them with ease (and not trouble you repeatedly). Put out the food on an easy-to-reach counter or long dining table. At the bar, ensure there’s space for bottles, glasses, bottle openers, mixers, ice, garnishes and eats. You’ll need glasses, yes, and lots of them in different types. Get whisky tumblers, beer mugs, tall glasses, martini glasses and ones for margarita. Get and shot glasses if you’re planning something wild. You’ll also need cocktail shakers, stirrers, bottle openers and corkscrews for wine, plus lots of napkins
Choose your food & drinks
Keep the food simple. Fussy food is not a good idea at a buzzing party. Put out plenty of finger foods. One or two hot main dishes for those who want something more substantial at the end of the evening should do. As for drinks, you’ll need a wide variety – beer, wine, whisky, vodka, rum, tequila and maybe a couple of liqueurs. Don’t forget the mixers – soda, cola, soft drinks, juice. Plus loads and loads of ice. Ensure also that you have freezer space to store your ice.
Plan the fun
What’s a party without great music, right? Hire a DJ or one of your friends can do the job. Else, pull out your playlist and get some great speakers. Think of party games everyone can play. Set up a card table in a corner if you are going to pull an all-nighter.
Who’s the bartender?
If it’s a small gathering, you can make drinks for your guests. But if it’s a larger crowd, it’s much better to let your guests make their own. Hiring a professional bartender is another option.
So, sit back, say cheers and have yourself a rocking party at home!
