Sins of Style- The 'Nos' of Fashion

Previous Next

Style Rookies or not, most men make very common mistakes in fashion. Unfortunately, however small these fashion faux pas as we call them may be, they have a way of standing out. And when they do, it is quiet distinctive.  Let us dive into the world of these style sins that top the charts. Consider the following as pointers or references and these are best avoided under all circumstances.

Suspenders with Belt:  Accessorizing maybe new to you and you may have just taken a shinning to it. So it is only common to go slightly over board and put a whole bunch of things together. While you are putting things together, always remember never to pair suspenders and belt together. Suspenders hold your pants up and so does your belt. So you can never justify wearing them together.

Oversized Suits: Or over sized anything for that matter is a complete no no. Large clothing, one that does not fit properly sends across a slouchy message and it is anti power dressing. Your suits especially, remember it should fit you perfectly at the shoulders and the length of the sleeve should not spill out.  Bring out those measuring tapes and find the nearest alterations tailor in case you were guilty of this.

Match your shoes and belt: Your belt and shoes should connect in terms of color and style. If you wear a colorful canvas belt with a pair of leather shoes, the look ends with negative taste right there. There is no salvaging the look after this. Remember the two ideally needs to be in the same color zone and style. Always team your formal shoes with formal belts and casual shoes with casual belts.

Un-tucked office shirts: When you do not tuck your office shirts in your pants, it looks like you are in hiding.  This communicates to others, that you either do not know how to dress or are in an “I couldn’t care” mode.  You can be wearing them with jeans, formal pants or with a pair of cotton chinos, always remember to fix your look by “tucking-in”.

An obese wallet: Just because women are allowed to carry their world in a bag you cannot do the same with your wallet. No bills should ever spill out of your wallet and at all times the wallet should resemble a well toned structure. Obese wallets give an impression that you carry too much baggage. Instead invest in a couple compartments like a card holder, key holder and so on. This ensures that everything has a space of its own.
