Aside from stoking some warmth in native Russians for centuries now, vodka is a favoured base spirit for cocktail makers owing its fairly pliable properties; it meekly mingles with other flavours and retains them while infusing strong alcoholic essence.

HISTORY OF THE Margarita Cocktail

Margarita, a delightful cocktail served in almost every bar across the world, was believed to be first created in the year 1938 by Carlos “Danny” Herrara at his restaurant for one of the customers Marjorie King, a Ziegfeld dancer, who was allergic to all spirits except tequila. Another story surrounding the creation of margarita cocktail is about a bartender Don Carlos, who in the year 1941, experimented with drinks one afternoon and offered it to Margarita Henkel, a lady visiting the cantina and the daughter of the then-German-ambassador. Since she was the first person to try the cocktail, it came to be known after her. The most believable claim that most people agree with, however, is that of Francisco “Pancho” Morales, who first mixed the drink on 4th of July, 1942 at Tommy’s Place Bar in the El Paso-Juarez area.

Margarita Cocktail Ingredients

To make the margarita cocktail, you would require tequila (about 45 ml), Cointreau or triple sec (about 15 ml), fresh lime juice (about 30 ml), lime wedges, salt or sugar to apply on the rim of the glass, and some ice cubes.

Steps to make a Margarita Cocktail

The classic margarita recipe is pretty simple to make. To add an exciting touch to your cocktail, you salt the rim or substitute the salt with sugar by taking a chilled margarita glass and rubbing the rim of the glass with a lime wedge. Invert the glass into a plate full of salt or icing sugar. Separately, take a few ice cubes in a shaker and add the tequila, Cointreau or triple sec, and fresh lime juice along with the ice. Shake the contents well and strain it into the glass you prepared. Garnish the cocktail with a lime wedge.
