One can’t refute the fact that Indian cricket team’s captain – Virat Kohli is fiercely talented, which coupled with his play bold attitude has helped him emerge as one of the most powerful faces of India’s current generation of cricket. Since the very beginning of his career, Virat has impressed one and all with his consistent performances and today he is at the top of his game. And when you are at the top of your game, you are sure to get praises galore.
Likewise, Virat has made it to the praise list of some of the most illustrious people in the world of cricket and here’s what they have to say about this young cricketing sensation.
Take a look…
Fellow teammate Yuvraj Singh, who shares a warm camaraderie with Virat Kohli, always has some nice things to say about the current Indian cricket team captain. In one of his interviews, Yuvraj said, “There are players who are in form and there’s Virat Kohli who wins you matches again and again.” We couldn't agree more with Yuvi’s observations.
Ian Michael Chappell
Former Australian player Ian Chappell is extremely fond of Virat and never falls short of praises for him. Chappell calls Virat the best finisher and has even voiced his thoughts. “He (Virat) is called a finisher and there is a reason why. Michael Bevan was known as a finisher and he did it in a few short overs. But this man comes in at No. 3 and does it for such long periods,” said Chappell.
Another former Australian cricketer who is completely in awe of Virat Kolhi is Ian Healy. The cricketer, who is known for his exceptional wicketkeeping skills has bestowed Virat with one of the best compliments ever. Healy once said, “Have watched Sachin (Tendulkar) bat and I must say he (Virat) seems to have the ability to bat like him.”
Australian cricketers definitely find a resemblance between Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli’s batting style. Another one to comment on it is Michael Clarke. He stated, “Watching Kohli bat, reminds me of Tendulkar.”
Regarded as one of the greatest batsmen of Indian cricket team, former cricketing sensation – Sunil Gavaskar sums up Virat Kohli’s brilliance in just one line – “Virat Kohli is beyond phenomenal.” He has even commented on Virat’s play bold attitude – “To became a good player, you need talent. To became a great player, you need an attitude like Kohli.”
Former Indian cricketer and captain Sourav Ganguly feels Virat is one of the greatest batsmen of the current generation and has been quite vocal about it too. “As of now, Virat Kohli is the greatest batsman of the world.” Now that’s a huge compliment, isn’t it?
Bangladeshi player, Nasir Hossain, agrees with Sourav Ganguly on that front. He has been quoted saying, “If I have to pick the best batsman in the world cricket right now, only two names come to my mind, one is Ab De Villiers (RCB player and Virat Kohli’s IPL teammate) and other Virat Kohli.”
Cricketing legend Viv Richards too had some lovely things to say about Virat Koli’s bold moves on-field. “I love watching Virat Kohli bat. I love his aggression and serious passion that I used to have. He reminds me of myself.” Aww, that is indeed sweet!
Indian international cricket player, Ravichandran Ashwin, who recently wowed everyone with his game in the Sri Lanka test series too has showered praises for his captain – Virat Kohli. This is what the young cricketer said, “Sandstorm from Sachin at Sharjah and the hailstorm in Mohali from Virat Kohli should be written in the same paragraph.”
Australian cricketer Aaron Finch, who is pretty impressed by Virat’s batting skills once took to his twitter and wrote, “Dear Virat Kohli, Can you please stop making batting look so easy, it’s embarrassing for most other batters in the world. Thanks.” Lol! We think that was the cutest message Virat must have ever received.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni
Our ex-captain cool, Dhoni, too has always been impressed by Virat’s on-field skills and has never shied away from praising his determination and expertise. He had once said, “Virat has been fantastic over the years; if you see what really counts is how you can improve your game. Right from the very first game that he played for India, he is somebody who always wanted to improve and he always wanted to contribute in the team’s win and by contribution, it was not a small contribution, he always wanted to be the Man of the Match in those terms.”
Fellow team member, Harbhajan Singh has once commented about Virat’s ability to deliver the best despite being under pressure. Singh stated, “There aren't too many batsmen in world cricket today, who love chasing and the burden of trying to overtake a big score. The more the pressure on Virat, the better he plays.”
AB De Villiers
Virat Kohli’s IPL teammate from Royal Challengers Bangalore and dear friend AB De Villiers believes that Virat is truly amongst the best cricket players in the world today. In an interview, Villiers said, “He (Kohli) is definitely the best player in the world. He has got competition in quite a few players like Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, and there are a lot of players — with Quinton de Kock coming through — around the world. But I truly believe you can be the best player only if you play all formats in cricket. If you are in the top five in all three formats, that's when you know you can really play the game.”
RCB players Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli are often in news for their on-field partnership and off-field asli yaari. Once when Virat grilled Gayle for an interview, Gayle said, “It's a great, great feeling. You are a legend and it's an absolute pleasure. You are a legend and it's a privilege to see you score those runs from the other end. I wish you many, many more runs, seriously, from the bottom of my heart.”
