Why We Are Mighty Impressed By Deepika Padukone’s #PlayBold Attitude

A month ago, a popular American magazine – Paper, not just put her on their exclusive online cover but also tagged her as ‘THE BOLLYWOOD MEGA-STAR ABOUT TO CONQUER AMERICA.’ And, they were so damn right.

The recently released trailer of the Hollywood film — xXx-The Return Of Xander Cage showing our desi sensation in a badass action avatar, has further attested the magazine’s premonition. Looking at the teaser one can safely say that Deepika Padukone undeniably is the next big thing in Hollywood.

She is sassy, drop-dead-gorgeous, bold, and very much Indian, yes, you read it right. The Padmavati actress is playing Serena Unger — the black leather-clad, gun-wielding romantic interest of Vin Diesel in this action-adventure Hollywood film, but here’s the surprise, Deepika is not rolling her ‘R’s in the film rather she has retained her Indian accent.

Deepika has broken all the stereotypes and played bold by intentionally using Indian accent as opposed to an exaggerated forced American accent to mark her debut in Hollywood.

In fact, while many actresses would give their left arm to get a part in a Hollywood project of this magnitude, the Piku actress took up the project only because she was allowed to retain her Indian accent.

“I play an Indian girl in the film, and for me, it's a matter of great pride that I get to be myself. That is one of the aspects that drew me to the script and attracted me to do this film, the fact that for once, I was allowed to be myself is fantastic. I was allowed to flaunt that I am Indian,” said Deepika Padukone in an interview.

She even added, “For years, we have accepted the British and Australian accent, for example. So it’s high time we accept an Indian accent."

Well, we can’t help but feel proud of her bold move. And with this #playbold attitude, the girl is indeed going to conquer not just America but, we say, the whole world.  Attagirl!
