Why Akira is Sonakshi Sinha's Boldest Move

The Dabangg girl Sonakshi Sinha has always impressed us with her confidence and on-screen charisma ever since she debuted opposite Salman Khan in 2010.

However, somehow the real potential of this junior shotgun was never explored as she did little to step out of the archetypal mould of a pelvic-thrusting, song and dance actress in a commercial film milieu.

Barring Vikramaditya Motwane’s Lootera, we only saw her in blockbuster films like Rowdy Rathore, Dabangg 2, Son Of Sardar, Action Jackson etc., often getting overshadowed by the presences of her larger than life heroes.

But this week Sonakshi Sinha stunned us all as she revealed the power-packed trailer of her forthcoming film Akira.

And we feel this is her boldest move ever. Finally, she has stepped out of her comfort zone and has transformed from being the usual glossy heroine to a gutsy action heroine.

Directed by renowned action director AR Murugadoss, Akira is a gritty action thriller, which has Sonakshi Sinha doing some high-octane action sequences.

Speaking about the film at the trailer launch, Sonakshi said, “It’s a story about a girl who stands up against all odds and I feel that every girl today should be able to take care of herself because you can be thrown into any situation and you need to stand up for yourself. So basically the film is about that.”

Clearly, Akira is embedded with the message to #playbold, and this is exactly what Sonakshi did too while shooting for this strenuous film. “While I am really happy to be part of the film where a woman is doing so much action, it was not easy for sure. I trained for 3-4 months before the film started, I was training while we were shooting. I went through a lot of injuries and it was painful as hell. But it was all worth it,” said Sonakshi at the event.

Looking at her killer action chops, one can safely say that the action star of the year has arrived.
