With a Grammy and numerous other awards to her credit, one would think singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor was born to fame. Of course that’s not true at all — Meghan hails from a family of jewellers, with absolutely no background in showbiz. Moreover, when she first started up, she had no management or “glam team” either and admits to being “terrified” while readying for her debut.
The video for her 2014 single ‘All About That Bass’ may have become a viral sensation, but through it all, Meghan confesses she had “no idea” what she was doing! “The first thing I ever did was the music video for ‘All About That Bass’ and I had no management… I was terrified. I just remember eight hands were all over me shoving me into these outfits and they were like ‘GO!’ And I was just faking it! A lot of my first year was fake it, till you make it,” she says.
These days, while she is dishing out advice to ‘future husbands’ in verse, Meghan does have a few solid thoughts on how to start up as well. For starters, she feels it is of utmost importance to build self-confidence as a performer or entrepreneur of any sort. From being someone who didn’t even want to take a picture of herself, to posing happily for photo shoots, Meghan has taught herself to toughen up and take charge. Despite her obvious talent, Meghan battled insecurities — as do many others at the onset of a new career. Hang in there, is Meghan’s message and, while you find your courage, feel free to fake it!
