Wayne Rooney’s charitable bold move - Read more

Wayne Rooney is way ahead of the pack when it comes to planning for the new year. We’re cheering for the footie star on this account — and not just because he’s so well organised. For August 3, 2016, Rooney has a star-studded match lined up at Old Trafford, with names like Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi being mentioned as participants. The event (and this is what we’re particularly impressed by) is a football game in aid of children’s charities, including Claire House Hospice and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

The match — originally meant only to mark Rooney’s 12 years at Manchester United — is now being promoted as a charity game at the request of Wayne himself, who insisted on all monies generated from the game after expenses being distributed to his chosen charities.

Delighted that his milestone moment at Manchester United will also benefit others, Rooney was all smiles as he made the announcement recently. We can only applaud this bold move and hope that others follow in his footsteps. It isn’t easy to keep up with Rooney’s footwork, but his charity work sets an example that can certainly be followed!
