A Rolex for Zubin Mehta to mark 80 symphonic years
As gifts for men go, a luxury watch has always ranked high on our list of recommended presents. A Rolex, of course, is the timeless ticker to give — and this time, it was brand Rolex itself that did the giving!
Zubin Mehta — the Bombay-born maestro who has conducted the Vienna, Berlin and Israel Philharmonic Orchestras — turns 80 on April 29. A host of once-in-a-lifetime concerts are being held in Mumbai to commemorate this milestone. It was after one such show only days ago (on April 17), at an exclusive dinner party at The Taj Mahal Palace hotel, that Rolex’s Managing Director Dorab Randeria presented the maestro with an Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 in white gold. This particular model has been described as the ‘president’s watch’ because of the wrists it has decorated in the past. It seems the perfect gift for one of the most decorated conductors of western classical music in the world, given that keeping good time is everything for a man who makes magic with a baton.
They say music is how we decorate time. If that is true, few decorate it better than this living legend.
