Asin wants people to “stop making assumptions”

Asin

Even at the most active point in her career, ‘Ghajini’ actress Asin made it clear that she did not “want to do movies for the sake of being seen.” Then, as she announced her impending marriage to Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma, Asin suggested she would be wrapping up her work commitments (prior to their January 2016 wedding) and signing out of showbiz. While it wasn’t quite clear if this was meant to be a short sabbatical or a permanent sojourn, it was perfectly clear that Asin was making a full-time commitment to playing wife.

Having worked alongside some of Bollywood’s biggest names — Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar included — Asin could easily have chosen to continue down her career path, despite choosing to marry. Yet, she didn’t. Her decision has since been debated by many — with some folks bandying about terms like ‘women’s empowerment’ and how Asin’s decision sets a bad example for other women. We’ve always said ‘live and let live,’ filing away some public comments on the subject as being utterly ridiculous. Perhaps the debate has annoyed Asin too, because on April 2, the newly-minted Mrs. Sharma took to social media to slam those who are still discussing her career decisions.

“For all my media friends who still have not got the message, I’m once again reiterating that I have stopped taking up any assignments and have wrapped all my commitments before my wedding itself including my brand endorsements. Request people to stop making assumptions about my assignments and work as I’m not doing that at this stage. Had made this announcement before the wedding itself.”

The message is loud and clear: Asin has made her choice and she’d like her space, her pause and her peace. Now will her words be enough to slay the subject?
