A hit from Madhur Bhandarkar: The unlikely ‘asli yaari’ between Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut
They say actresses in the Indian film industry can’t be friends and we’ve heard enough behind-the-scenes bickering ourselves to know this is true in most cases. Of course every generalisation has its notable exceptions, and we are pleasantly surprised to hear that A-list stars Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut may well be beating the odds in the ‘asli yaari’ department.
Madhur Bhandarkar appears to have flatlined at the box office with his latest film ‘Calendar Girls,’ but he does seem to have achieved an enduring success with PC and Kangana — who became fast friends on the set of his 2008 flick, ‘Fashion’. Scoring a National Award each, for ‘Best Actress’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress,’ Priyanka and Kangana shared the ‘Fashion’ spotlight with ease. Then, earlier this year, the gorgeous girls were back again sharing National Award accolades: this time Kangana took home the coveted ‘Best Actress’ award for ‘Queen,’ while Priyanka shone in the reflected glory of a ‘Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’ award for her film ‘Mary Kom’. Again, despite a media-fuelled controversy about who should have won which award, Kangana and Priyanka stood united and even hosted a celebratory bash together.
“My friendship with Priyanka comes from the fact that we have known each other for ages,” Kangana has confessed in the past, “We had a lot of warmth (when we worked together in ‘Fashion’ and ‘Krrish 3’) and we still do.” Adding that “it takes a lot of nurturing, care and effort to maintain a healthy equation in the industry,” Kangana makes it clear that Priyanka is worth the effort. So here’s to ‘asli yaari’ — may it ever grow and prosper!
