Dil Ka Suna Saaz Tarana Dhundega, Mujhko Mere Baad Zamaana Dhundhega…

No matter how much we search for the person, we won’t get him back, but he has made sure that he remains in our hearts forever. Mohd Rafi is celebrated with his songs everyday by millions of his fans across the planet. 31st July 1980 he left a void in the industry. When Shammi Kapoor was told, ‘Shammi ji, aapki awaaz chali gayi’, he immediately responded, ‘Rafi sahab khairiyet hai? Kuch hua toh nahi?’ Such was his impact.

Lots of places across Goa celebrated the Genius of Mohd. Rafi but one place did justice to his magic. 31st July 2013 brought back the magic when the great hall of Hotel Fidalgo was packed to the brim, everyone waiting eagerly for A Tribute to Late Mohammed Rafi to start. On entering people were greeted by a smiling picture of him, as if he was there welcoming each of his fans.

The stage was taken over by band Lehrein and lead singers, Mahamood Hassan and Chetana Sahane. The evening started with the hit, Dil Ka Suna Saaz followed by Aaj Mausam Bada Beyman, Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki, Ehsaan Tera Hoga Mujhpar, Dard E Dil, these songs reached directly to the heart wit the powerful voice of Mahamood Hassan. Felt as if Mohd. Rafi was there giving him the power to sing exactly in the same style and poise. Further on the songs went on to be so touching that the audience were transported in another world. With eye closed, some seemed to take a walk their good old days or just getting a flash back of a romantic time…with songs like Abhi Na Jao Chod Ke, Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho, Maine Pucha Chand Se and Chulene Do Nazuk Hoton Ko

As the evening progressed there were some lighter moments, announcements, and some trivia which the lead singers shared. They urged the audience to sing and we obliged. Everyone succumbed to the magic so much that they started writing requests on tissue papers and sending it on stage.

The most touching moment came when a couple from Pune urged me to click their picture. I obliged and then the lady revealed that her husband couldn’t walk properly but listening to Tareef Karun Kya Uski, he actually stood up and danced! The power of Rafi Sahab’s music!

Ek Shaam Rafi Ke Naam…Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya actually gave a flood of emotions to the audience, who went drenched in the soothing and peppy music with a promise of coming back next year on 31st July. It has become a pilgrimage for the fans of Rafi Sahab. An evening that will remain in the hearts for a long, long time…

Rafi Sahab… Tareef Karu Kya Uski, Jinhone Aapko Banaya.
