Adrenaline Rushing in Sydney!
Do you love those thrilling experiences that get your pulse racing and adrenaline rushing? Do you enjoy seemingly extreme activities that leave you feeling more alive than ever? If so, Sydney is the perfect destination for you…
Seaplane Ride (Junkie level: Simple)
Riding in a seaplane is a truly spectacular experience. For one, there is novelty in the fact that the plane takes off and lands on water! Once you’re up in the air, the sort of views that a seaplane ride offers is just spectacular. Thanks to Sydney Seaplanes, I set off on a fabulous sea plane journey from Rose Bay to Palm Beach. Words don’t do justice to the stunning views of the Sydney coastline that I was treated to! If you love planes, request the friendly pilot if you can grab a seat up front next to him, he will be happy to oblige!
Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb (Junkie level: Medium)
Imagine if you could actually climb one of the most iconic features of Sydney’s skyline instead of just admiring it from a distance! The Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb lets you do exactly that—by giving you the opportunity to climb to the summit of the beautiful Sydney Harbour Bridge.
I enlisted for the Express Climb – which promises to have you hike up and down the bridge in 2.5 hours flat. After a rigorous safety demonstration, my group of about ten climbers set on their way—climbing through and up the bridge’s iron body in an experience of a lifetime. Our climb guide entertained us with his colourful anecdotes and vast knowledge of the bridge and city both. As we progressed up the climb, we saw traffic on the bridge literally zooming by below our feet—and the Syndey harbor opening up all around. Truly, you haven’t seen Sydney till you’ve seen it from the bridge!
Skydiving (Junkie level: Extreme)
Take that leap of faith! Skydiving features on most people’s bucket lists—there’s no better time to cross it right off than now! I had my skydiving experience courtesy Sydney Skydivers at the Picton Airport, about 80kms outside Sydney.
I was strapped into my jumpsuit and given a quick debriefing by my enthusiastic jump master. Before I knew it, we’d all been loaded into a little plane and were rising above Sydney! As I saw the houses and roads below get smaller and smaller, my anxiety started building. My jump instructor patted by back reassuringly, even as skydiving suddenly began to seem like the stupidest idea ever.
At 12,000 feet, it was time to jump. My instructor nudged me towards the hatch—and before I knew it, I was free falling at close to 200 kmph through the sky! It’s really hard to put the sky diving experience into words—you feel like you’re flying, but don’t really feel the plunging feeling as you’d imagine. All of a sudden, you will hit the cloud cover—and then you’re falling through the clouds! You can feel the clouds, taste the clouds, you are the clouds…until your parachute opens up and the insane fall comes to an end. We spent about five minutes gliding above Sydney (even spotting a kangaroo from mid-air) before lowering down to a perfect landing.
